"But these things I plan won't happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled.
If it seems slow, be patient! For it will surely take place. It will not be late by a single day." Habakkuk 2:3

Seble's Readoption Ceremony

Today was a special day in our family-we "re-adopted" Seble.  This was done because we wanted her to be able to get her official US birth certificate.  All she had was an Ethiopian one-which will make this hard down the road to obtain driver's licenses, marriage license, social security card, etc.... AND with that comes her "new name".  You see in Ethiopia-it is tradition for the kids to take the father's name as their middle name-so on all her documentation her name was "Seble Adam".  We will now have all her new documents in her real name "Seble Alaine Stutzman".
I actually got teary eyed when the judge said that "Each part of her job is very hard and no one really likes the things that she has to do. In all the things that she does in her job-almost all are not very good-but this thing that she is about to do is the best thing-the thing that makes everyone happy.....and that is to make a family. So now I am making you a family." She said.  Now yes, we already were a family-Seble has been legally ours since Nov. 19th-and she was an American citizen since we landed in DC....but now, now she has a US birth certificate with her full legal name.  The name that her country gave her and we gave her put together.  We are blessed beyond measure.

  1. Yay Congrats! Was that an easy process? Our two boys are from Russia and I think about doing that. Any tips? Sebel is SO SO cute! How blessed you are. Hugs from Stayton, OR!

  2. Yay! Awesome news! It is a wonderful moment when the judge signs the papers, and you can have a sigh of relief knowing that you have crossed the finished line! That little one you have worked so hard for, prayed so long for, and dreamed of holding, is legally and permanently YOURS. :) Congratulations!

"Although it may not always be obvious to us, there seems to be one distinct moment when God begins a new story in each of our lives. He writes words on our hearts that long to be spoken and strain to be lived out. Then with His own great hand, He begins to write the script. Experience by experience through seemingly ordinary days, He supernaturally orders our lives. Only when we look back and reflect on what appeared to have been the ordinary events of life does it become clear what a miracle the Lord has performed." Jan Beazely
